The Ultimate Collab
Jordan shoes are great on their own, but what happens when you combine them with the ingenuity of Spike Lee? You get Spizike!
Available for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and grade school kids, Spizike shoes combine the high-performance quality of Michael Jordan’s previous shoes with a new model that stands entirely on its own.
What makes these shoes so unique for kids is that they’re the perfect mix of culture and sports. Kids can follow the footsteps of their favorite athlete while learning more about street fashions of the past.
Hollywood and Hoops
Hollywood and hoops come together in the Spizike, but how did it all begin? It all started with a movie directed by Spike Lee.
In the film She’s Gotta Have It, a character named Mars Blackmon expressed his extreme love for all things Jordan. This gave Nike the idea to use Blackmon in their shoe commercials during the ’80s and ’90s. He even appeared alongside MJ to promote the latest releases.
Naturally, the commercials were a success, especially Blackmon’s catchphrase “It’s gotta be da shoes.” In 2006, Nike started thinking about what would happen if they produced a collab shoe.
Spoiler alert: It was a great idea.
An AJ Mashup
The Air Jordan Spizike is actually a mashup of several previous Jordan models, meaning you’ll probably recognize bits and pieces when you look at the silhouette. You’ll notice lots of similarities with the Jordan Retro 3 and 6 in particular.
You’ll also notice the wide tongue from the Jordan Retro 6 and the large Air Sole unit from the Jordan Retro 3. Plus, the Spizike has netting from the Jordan Retro 5 and wings from the Jordan Retro 4.
How to Wear
Spizike and other Air Jordan shoes are the perfect way to open up your kid’s eyes to the world of style. With these shoes on their feet, they’ll look their best and feel confident, whether they’re running around the playground or hanging out at daycare.
That said, you’ll need to teach them how to style their new shoes. You could go the route of Blackmon himself and pair them with casual Jordan shorts, a jersey, and a T-shirt. Or, mix retro streetwear style with today’s modern aesthetic with an oversized hoodie and sweatpants.
Whatever your choice, your kid is going to love their new shoes.
